Mockingbird
03:25
|
|||
It's a sin to kill a mockingbird
I believe it though I don't believe in sin or souls, if truth be told
We're animals of meat and bone
but beasts who know we'll die and so we flee to pasts
or futures unknown
This one moment is all that there is
and this one life is full of moments just like this
I'm practicing....being
Do your best and keep your word
Ask for what you need and speak with kindness
That's all we can manage
Don't fall for a self-saboteur
They may not mean to hurt you but you'll still end up
their collateral damage
This one heart is worth it
Hold it tenderly
Show them, let them touch but
don't ever let their reach exceed their grasp
Know what to seek and what to watch pass
Know what to let die and what to hold fast
Either way that promise was never going to last
So let them fly from your heart

Spring
04:39
|

Here's the thing - I can be Springtime
if you're looking for that kind of thing
I can be moonlight on cool skin
if you like that kind of thing
People let things die for their own reasons
but that doesn't make it right
and I won't abide it
Why waste moonlight? ....if you like that kind of thing.
I don't want more of the same
- the excuses, the guilt and the blame
You just bring something true
and I'll bring you Spring
I know what you've got
inside you is fire because I've seen the spark
but don't let's be ashes before it gets dark
I think that would be a shame
I'm strong and I'm brave
but I won't sit round and hope that you will change
I'm going to light a fire and it's not going to wait
I've seen my offers wasted once before
I don't want more of the same
wondering day after day
if we'll wax or if we'll wane
I don't want more of the same
and though it would cause me great pain
I'll be shining my light elsewhere
bud-burst someplace elsewhere
It's the way of things in nature
and Spring must have her day

Leroy
04:01
|
|||
Little baby boy you've got rain-clouds in your eyes
Sometimes your Mama cries when she holds you
but little baby boy there's all this brilliance locked inside
When you slipped between the worlds somehow they closed you to...
the feel of the grass as you run beneath your feet
and the sound of the music as your Daddy sings you sweet
but I know that you know that your being is complete
You are wholly loved
You're a gift from above
Leroy you live between two worlds
My little girl has never seen your other face
Leroy you're a miracle, impossible
Leroy you're perfect in your own way
Little baby boy I never heard you cry
All your sorrows were a secret deep inside you
But little baby boy you taught us secrets by and by
with your bird-song and your heart so strong and so true and
your breath still lingers on the morning air
and the warmth of your skin is a joy beyond compare
You can't know how you changed our whole world just be being there
You are wholly loved
You're a gift from above
Leroy you live between two worlds
My little girl has never seen your other face
Leroy you're a miracle, impossible
Leroy you're perfect in your own way

Terebithia
03:09
|
|||
You ran as fast as summer
Don't stay mad and I'll meet you under
the twisted tree, over the creek
Swing Leslie - be my queen
Terebithia
Seems the smarter you are
the more things can scare you
and the harder you love
the more life can hurt you
Here we're free from teachers and bullies
and even she, whom I love deeply
Terebithia
Please don't go to the river alone - I am coming
See the bright, hungry water is deep and fast running
and I'll bring my new pencils and draw us a bridge
and we'll cross there together and we'll laugh and we'll....

Singular
04:06
|
|||
Singular these days
I set my mind on one thing at a time
and for now I'm yours and for now you're almost mine
Solitude is sweet
when you're no longer defined by the company you keep
I set my feet to walk a steady line
Oooohooooh
See how well I breathe
Watch how soft I sleep
and if there are dreams
I hope they're wholly mine
Ooooohoooh

Breckin Melbourne, Australia
Breckin, which means freckled, is the moniker of Melbourne-based visual artist, poet and singer-songwriter, Heather
Marsh.
Her debut album, Shiner is both bruised and brilliant. It illuminates and holds an oblique mirror to the perennial subject of love and loss in a series of songs that are equal parts elegy, sympathy card and therapy session.
